Appearance: Pours a reddish-brown tint with a tan head that doesn’t stick around too long.
Smell: The aromas that tickles the nose is a burst of alcohol. The caramel notes comes through after the first whiff.
Taste: Surprisingly enough, the alcohol flavor isn’t as potent is one would expect. There are fruity flavors that are also noticeable. Plums and raisins dominate the palate.
Mouthfeel: A thick and syrupy feel. It’s also quite carbonated for a dark beer.
Overall: This is a decent craft beer. It’s not my favorite, but I do think the flavors aren’t as harsh as other dark beers. I also like the story behind this brew. It’s in conjunction with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Every case of BT that is sold, North Coast Brewery makes a contribution to support jazz education. With all that said, I give BT a 6 of 10.
